Evaluating 2014

Miss Pip posted a load of questions recently relating to 2014 and looking back on it. She got it from into-mind.com, and I thought I would also post about it. Hope the people at Into-Mind don't mind too much, then again questions posted are meant to be answered, correct?

1. What one event, big or small, are you going to tell your grandchildren about?
Hmm. Going up Ben Nevis probably. I know I didn't get to the top, but I think it's still pretty damn impressive.

2. If you had to describe your 2014 in 3 words, what would they be?
Busy, quick & eventful

3. What new things did you discover about yourself?
No sure on this one. maybe that I am capable of losing weight when I actually try to? Or maybe that I've got more motivation than I thought. Pretty sure that was the only thing keeping me going when doing race for life.

4. What single achievement are you most proud of?
Not sure on this, there's Ben Nevis (mentioned above); passing my driving test and completing 2 races this year. I can't choose just one of those

5. What was the best news you received?
I think it was getting told that I had passed my driving test. I was so relieved!

6. What was your favourite place that you visited in 2014?
Harry Potter Studios...it was amazing!

7. Which of your personal qualities turned out to be the most helpful this year?
My ability to get on with things and push through, despite bad circumstances

8. Who was your number one go-to person that you could always rely on?
Andrew

9. Which new skills did you learn?
I rode a pony for the first time ever this year. Dismount was not something I successfully learnt however...

10. What, or who, are you most thankful for?
I am most thankful for...having a good group of people around me, who support me.

 11. If someone wrote a book about your life in 2014, what kind of genre would it be? A comedy, love story, drama, film noir or something else?
Haha, probably a dramedy (is that a thing?) I'm a drama queen, but I also tend to make a fool of myself a lot!

12. What was the most important lesson you learnt in 2014?
Don't doubt my instincts so much, they're usually right.

13. Which mental block(s) did you overcome?
Not entirely sure I overcame any mental blocks, though I am learning to deal with stress a bit better.

14. What 5 people did you most enjoy spending time with?
They know who they are :) Andrew, Sisterbell, Pip ;)

15. What was your biggest break-through moment career-wise?
Umm...still waiting for a breakthrough moment methinks.

16. How did your relationship to your family evolve?
Not sure it has evolved much, we all get along better now I suppose? Helps that we're all older and leaving childish squabbles behind

17. What book or movie affected your life in a profound way?
I found the book 'The Fault In Our Stars' moving, though maybe not profound.

18. What was your favourite compliment that you received this year?
'You are good at your job, you just need some more confidence'
It hit home.

19. What little things did you most enjoy during your day-to-day life?
Arriving home from work, and having some quiet time while I eat my dinner - either reading or watching an episode of something on Netflix.

20. What cool things did you create this year?
Umm...I was pretty awesome at coming up with present ideas this year. Hovercraft driving being one of them!

21. What was your most common mental state this year (e.g. excited, curious, stressed)?
Honestly...probably just tired

22. Was there anything you did for the very first time in your life this year?
Yes, I rode a pony

23. What was your favourite moment spent with your friends?
Oh god this is hard. I'm not sure, there were so many good times this year! I think maybe...on a trip to Longleat we were feeding the Deer, and they were really cheeky and kept putting their heads inside the car! Plus there was the camel incident...It was a really funny day

24 What major goal did you lay the foundations for?
Moving out. We started saving properly this year

25. Which worries turned out to be completely unnecessary?
I worry a lot, I can't pinpoint one singular incident

  • 26. What experience would you love to do all over again?
  • I would love to experience...watching Avenue Q or Matilda again

27. What was the best gift you received?
My car! It wasn't really a gift, but in a way it was as I didn't pay for it and it was given to me...

28. How did your overall outlook on life evolve?
I think I've learnt to look at things slightly differently. I'm looking forward all the time now and aiming for more

29. What was the biggest problem you solved?
Biggest problem...not really sure on this. Having a car so I can get myself around under my own steam perhaps.

30. What was the funniest moment of your year, one that still makes it hard not to burst out laughing when you think about it?
Ohh tricky. I think this one has to go to several moments, captured on camera by sisterbell. Hundreds of pictures of her pulling the ugliest faces you have ever seen on a human. Oh! and the thumb face picture!!

31. What purchase turned out to be the best decision ever?
I don't think I bought anything big this year, other than my car insurance. That was obviously a great decision because now I am insured for the whole of 2015...

32. What one thing would you do differently and why?
I think I would run more. get myself out to run more often instead of dipping in a out of it. I would have a decent level of fitness if I had done this instead of starting and stopping all the time.

33. What do you deserve a pat on the back for?
Carrying on up Ben Nevis after wanting to stop, over and over again.

  • 34. What activities made you lose track of time?
  • Reading mostly, and binge-watching TV programmes

  • 35. What did you think about more than anything else?
  • My weight probably!

36. What topics did you most enjoy learning about?
I enjoyed learning more about weightlifting (I'm not saying I'm an expert or anything. Far from it!)

37. What new habits did you cultivate?
I tried to cultivate the habit of running, this was only a partial success I feel.

  • 38. What advice would you give your early-2014 self if you could?
  • Save as much as you can. You don't need to spend money on the credit card

39. Did any parts of your self or your life do a complete 180 this year?
I don't think anything has changed that drastically, though I do have a better attitude towards exercise than in previous years

40. What or who had the biggest positive impact on your life this year?
urhm...not sure on this one. More than one person has had a big impact, so I'll stick with just saying my nearest and dearest.

I like these Questions - they made me think and evaluate things! The 10 questions below are all based on going forward into 2015.

41.What do you want the overarching theme for your 2015 to be?
Happiness and contentment. With both myself and external things

42. What do you want to see, discover, explore?
I want to discover what my body can do. Where I can push it to. How far I can get. I also want to see and explore a new place.

43. Who do you want to spend more time with in 2015?
Family that lives far away - would be nice to spend more time with them if possible

I want to improve my skills in task management and organisation. I always have to do lists longer than my arm!
I also want to Improve my running distance, and run the entirety of a 5k

45. Which personal quality do you want to develop or strengthen?

I want it to be the year Andrew and I move out

50. What is your number one goal for 2015?
To be happier

How have your 2014's been? What are you looking forward to for 2015?

Hair Chronicles, Vol #3

Volume #1 and Volume #2 here!

Welcome back to the third (and final?) instalment of my Hair Chronicles! Yaaaay

To remind you, at the end of 2012 I saw the new year creep in with pink hair. I was in a colourful stage...
EDIT: This is the second time I am writing this post as I lost everything. even though I clicked 'save' twice to make sure I had it all...

2013 - Taste the Rainbow

As you know I saw 2013 in with pink hair. This faded (or did I use ColourB4 - I have no idea!) then I decided to go bright orange...

Yes, I am dressed as the Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland...happy 21st to me!

I must have then used ColourB4 on my hair because it wasn't long before I was back to blonde, and had a risque haircut - it was rather short at the back.
This brings us to the end of Feb...Oh and I put purple into my hair too (Right pic)
My rapid colour changes did not go unnoticed, and I was publicly challenged (on Facebook) to do rainbow hair.

Several hours and 7 pots of dye led me to this...
It was magnificent. I l o v e d having rainbow hair. Unfortunately, it was not to be. I was working on a project at uni that required non-crazy natural hair. Time for another box of ColourB4...

Nailed it.
Totally natural.

After all of the bleaching, dying and stripping, my hair was...understandably dead. Again. So i took a big leap and had a hair cut. I have never had hair so short!
Yes, that is my natural hair colour on the roots of the left picture.
I wasn't a fan of the rooty blond look, so I dyed it brown while it grew out again (we're up to May).

These are July to September, where I must have had a haircut. the hair is looking much healthier, and it has stayed one colour since May!

I had another haircut for my graduation in October. You may have also noticed some purple has snuck into the front of my hair...and yes, this included having to bleach the front...

There we are, bleached front on the left. I dyed my hair dark purple just in time to see in the new year.

Ummm this post is rather long with all of the colour changes...so I'm afraid 2014 will have to wait for another post!

Has anyone else undertaken a crazy hair challenge? Or is that just me?

Autumn Bucket List

Hi all! November is over... DECEMBER TIME is here! If you've been paying attention, as a part of the #Blogtober14 Challenge one of the prompts was to write a Fall Bucket List. I thought it would be a good idea to take a look back and see what I have achieved from it just before we slip into the winter months...

The Original List
1. First and foremost, complete my first blog challenge - #BLOGTOBER14
2. Fit some running into my weekly routine, and stick with it!
3. Eat better
4. Post minimum of 2 book reviews
5. Try a recipe from my Clean Eating book
6. Look after my skin throughout autumn
7. Try some de-stress techniques each day
8. Start going to Zumba
9. Start looking for and planning gifts for Christmas (only 80 days away!)

Here's how I did:
1: CHECK. Big fat check on this - as evidenced in my October posts!
2: I think I've done okay on this, I'm part of a running group and I try to make sure I get to the sessions every week...
3: Hmmmm this can still be improved, but I have been eating better than I did through the summer.
4: FAIL. I didn't get around to doing this, November just flew by me and I didn't post anything I had planned #sadface
5: FAIL. I haven't done this, I still want to though! Perhaps when I'm off work over Christmas...
6: I haven't paid any attention to this one, so another FAIL.
7: FAIL, again. I think about doing it quite often, but have never actually implemented anything.
8: FAIL. However, I'm not sure this one is entirely my fault. When I wanted to go, it got cancelled, then when I couldn't go, it was on. Just bad timing all around I think!
9: CHECK. I've been thinking about Christmas a lot recently, and have got a few gifts together for it...Still a long ways to go though!

Overall, I achieved 4 / 9 on my bucket list. Overall, not too bad - could have been worse!

I hope November went well for everyone, and lets look forward to a good December!

Holy Cahonies, An Award This Way Comes

I know this is super late, and that I haven't posted in almost a whole month...I'm sorry! I'm on the case...

Charlotte from A Love Triangle nominated me for a Liebster Award! Thank you Miss Charlotte. Yazoo! Happiness!
John from Shout John ALSO nominated me! Which shat all over my plan to nominate him... Thank you John - I'm looking forward to answering your questions!

Rules:
- Link back to the blog who nominated you.
- Answer all of their questions.
- Write 11 facts about yourself.
- Link 11 blogs with less than 200 followers and tell them you've nominated them.
- Ask 11 facts for the blogs you nominate to answer.

First things first, Charlotte's Questions:
1. What time is it right now?
22:07 pm. Past my bedtime if I want to act like a functioning human being in the morning...

2. Would you rather be a fish or a bird?
A Bird. Flying FTW. Plus fish smell bad.

3. What kind of genre of book is your favourite?
Ooohh, good question. This requires some thought.

I can't decide on just one, so I'm going to list what I tend to read most often, in no particular order:

Fantasy
Erotic Romance
Historical Fiction
Young Adult
Paranormal Romance
Paranormal Suspense
Contemporary Romance

4. When lightening strikes the sea, why don't all the fish die?
I have NO idea.

I dislike not knowing things, so I googled - the fish in the area of the lightening strike do get fried, but because the ocean is so big the electricity disperses, and therefore has a lesser effect the further out it goes.

5. What is to the right of you, right now?
My handbag, a Harry Potter DVD box set, my sister singing karaoke.

6. Why is your blog called what It's called?
Boopy or Boops became a nickname given to me by my bestie. This caught on, and Andrew and Sisterbell both started calling me it too - as well as Maxx (Pips other half). It seemed like a good name for the blog, and gave me an idea for a logo (which I am yet to create!).

7. What goes on-top your Christmas tree?
Personally, I like stars to be on top of the Christmas tree. When I was younger we always has an angel, it was a very nice angel and I liked it a lot. I just prefer stars I think!

8. What did you leave out for Father Christmas when you were younger?
It varied from year to year, I think when I was small it was milk and cookies, and I got older it was milk and mince pies, or cookies. Of course, there were always carrots for the reindeer.

9. Which came first the chicken or the egg?
It's a never ending cycle of evolution, and therefore impossible for me to say.

10. What is the last film/movie you saw?
I saw The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 in the cinema (twice) over the weekend...

11. Your favourite Disney film is....?
This is very difficult to pin down. there are SO many that I love! Right now, Hook is foremost in my mind! I think I will always love that film - especially the imaginary food scenes.

Great questions from Charlotte! Thank you for those.

John's Questions:
1. My blog is a mixture of everything. But if you had to choose one topic for your blog forever - what would it be?
The topic for me to blog about forever...my life. ;) a bit of a cheat answer, but it works, right??

2. What was the last lie you told?
I think the last one I told waas...'Yes I've had dinner' (yesterday) when actually I had had a huuuge lunch and wasn't hungry. But then I ended up eating a small dinner anyway sooo....

3. What question do you hate to answer?
'Name your favourite book/film/TV Series' It's impossible for me to decide on just one favourite...

4. Which of the four seasons do you love?
hmmmm....I think I love fall more that the others. Halloween, foreworks night, the run up to Christmas, the colours of the trees...blahblahblah.

5. What cheers you up?
A big bar of chocolate, snuggles and a good book.

6. Where is your quiet place? (where you go to think or be alone)
My head. I get lost in my head sometimes! Or I'll go for a walk and sit in the park (usually on my lunch break from work) and just have time to myself.

7. What do you value most in a relationship?
Trust

8. What is the most played song you listen to?
ummm....No idea. Maybe Feeling Good by Muse? Could be any song from several musicals...

9. If you could choose to stay a certain age forever, what age would it be?
25. 25 just seems like a good age - 2 years and 2 months to go until I turn 25, so no pressure on working out the whole immortality thing...

10. At what age would you say - 'you grew up'?
I think it came along gradually, and I'm not enturely sure I'm 'grown up' now. Being the eldest out of 3 children automatically makes you the more responsible one, so I've always had that aspect of maturity becuase of that.

11. Do you think 'everything happens for a reason'?
I'm not sold on this. Sometimes it seems true, and it's good to believe in it. But at other times it's really hard to see where the reason in something is.

Nominations!:
1: Pip from RoanRider
2: Madi from And So I Did
3: I'm Done Being the Fat Girl
4: Daisy from Jetsettin Daisy
5: Jenn from Going the Distance
6: Rosa from Meekys World
7: Miss Freckles Blog
8: Somdyuti from One Tiny Wish
9: Purple Lips and Perfect Smiles
10: Emily from The Cozy Corner
11: Katie from The Hungry Goat

My Questions:

1. If you could live in any book universe, where would you choose?
2. What is the oddest term of endearment you have used for someone, or someone has used for you?
3. Snap Question: Zombie apocalypse! First weapon that comes to mind?
4. If you were a vegetable, what would you be and why?
5. Do you have any tips / tricks to posting regularly?
6. What is your family's most important Christmas tradition? (Or holiday tradition if you don't celebrate Christmas)
7. Do you have an outfit/item of clothing that you have owned for a long time, but never/rarely wear? if yes, what is it?
8. State a favourite character. Now explain what underwear you think they would wear?
9. If you could add 1 hour to your day, what would you do with it?
10. What do you want to achieve by the end of 2014?
11. If you could be any Harry Potter character, who would you be?

11 Facts About Me:
  • I love cheese, and am really looking forward to having cheese and crackers at Chrsitmas. It's just not Christmas without them!
  • I will always prefer to read the book before seeing the film/TV series. I find that it just enhances the experience for me because I know all of the backstory.
  • I love the colour purple. I also really enjoy lime green
  •  A perfect night out for me would incorporate good food, good people, and theatre. A dinner and a show kind of affair.
  • I am part Irish, and part Cornish (Cornwall - a county in Englad that often count themselves sepereately!)
  • I once played Frenchy in a school production of Grease - I had 7 wigs for the performance.
  • I have a bit of an addiction to biscuits. I very easily eat a whole packet of them. No joke.
  • Right this second I am sat in the living room with a glass of white wine, Big Bang Theory on the TV and wishing I had a whole pack of biscuits...
  • I own a Samsung Galaxy S4, which I love and will be sticking with the Samsung Galaxy when it comes to upgrading next year...
  • I've been with my boyfriend for almost 6 years (6 years in Feb)
  • Kiwi makes me sick
Voila. 11 facts...

Thanks again to John and Charlotte for nominating me! I look forward to reading more of these!

Writing Process Tag

Writing process? What even IS that?

I kid. Mostly.

A lot of my posts are very spontaneous, and a lot also come into being while I'm out and about. This can lead to sporadic rambling posts, and short, swift ones. This makes explaining my process-in depth-quite difficult, so I'm going to nab the questions that Somdyuti from One Tiny Wish answered for her post (in which I was tagged - thank you for thinking of me!).

What am I Working On?

Not very much outside of this blog and my health and fitness blog to be honest. Unless emails count! I've been enjoying writing on here and over on bekbek19.wordpress.com, and recently I have been thinking about writing more. This has lead me to jot down a couple of ideas and whatnot when inspiration strikes, but nothing has come of those yet. Who knows what could develop in future...

How Does My Work Differ From Others of its Genre?

Well, first and foremost it is a blog about my lifestyle, thoughts and opinions. These are all quite individual to me, so are not likely to be echoed in quite the same way. Despite there being tons of lifestyle bloggers around, everyone still has very different opinions and writing styles.

Why Do I Write?

Because I enjoy it.
I like doing it, it has become a hobby to post on here. In a way it takes courage to put yourself out there and post online, and I like thinking that maybe I can reach out to someone through writing. Both are good feelings. It's also enjoyable when people interact with me because of what I have said, or the opinions I have. I find it cathartic to word vomit onto a page whatever is going through my mind at the time. It is quite cleansing!

How Does My Writing Process Work?

Slapdash something together and hope for the best! No, I do plan things as well.
I have a list of blog ideas, which I regularly jot things down on to look at on a later date. I look through these regularly, and will draft up a post or two that I feel inspiration for or wish to develop further.

Then I write what comes to mind, often with little asides and comments from myself - usually I leave these in as italicised comments, but not always.

Once I  have something, I think about an image for it - this will depend on what the post is about, and where I am writing it. If I am writing it on my phone on the move (commuting or otherwise away form my laptop) I am less likely to use images because I'm lazy...

All of my posts are very organic, and don't require much planning. Maybe that shows in the rambling quality of my posts? I 've no idea. I don't spend hours editing posts (unless there's a lot of images to dig out e.g. Hair Chronicles) though I will absolutely, always, without a doubt, check for spelling mistakes, grammar misuse and parts that just don't make reading sense. I'm not saying I'm perfect on this front, but I do try to make sure my posts are readable.

Upon completion of all of this, I then think of a few labels and go ahead with posting. Then you - readers - come along and devour and judge my words, flittering back off into the blogosphere when you are finished. Enjoy!

Bloggers, I choose you!

Congratulations. Grab the questions and get writing...
I look forward to reading your posts!

P.S. I have tomorrow off work and now I feel EPIC. Enjoy your fridays!

Halloween Costume Reveal

After the success of Blogtober, the last part of it was a Halloween costume reveal. I wasn't able to do this until today because I didn't dress up yesterday.

Myself and 3 companions (we call ourselves the fantastic 4) are going to Alton Towers - a massive theme park - in our Halloween gear.

LOVE rollercoasters, I'm so excited!

Happy Halloween everyone!

#BLOGTOBER14 - Day 29

Helene in Between Blogtober

Day 29
Most Embarrassing Moment

Oh gosh I don't know...there have been a few.

At one of my cousins weddings a few years ago (I must have been about 13 ish) I was asked to read something during the service. I hadn't been to any sort of rehearsal, I was literally asked on the day to read. I agreed, and was instructed to go up at the same time as the two bridesmaids.

I was nervous, and I saw the bridesmaids get up. So I got up and walked up the aisle to join them. The Father doing the service gave me a bit of an odd look, and I couldn't work out why. Then I heard my Great Aunt calling my name, and waving me back to the pews.

Oh.

It dawned on me that I must have done something wrong, so I scurried over and sat next to my Great Aunt. Turns out I went up at the complete wrong time.

Kill me now.

I was dying of embarrassment, I felt like I had ruined the wedding by getting it wrong. I got so upset with myself that I was crying for the rest of the wedding, and wasn't able to read the passage. I had to pass it onto another of my cousins.

I think this is one of the most acute cases of embarrassment I've ever experienced. It still fills me with shame and dread even now. I am in shock that I'm actually going to post this...

#BLOGTOBER14 - Day 28

Helene in Between Blogtober

Day 28
Things I'm Superstitious About

This isn't really something that I think about, my superstitions are just a part of life so don't require any deep thought into why or what they are! I've listed below the ones that I can think of...

  1. Magpies - the ol' One for sorrow, Two for joy rhyme. I always look for a second Magpie if I see one.
  2. Walking on three drains is bad luck - I used to think this but as I've gotten older I don't mind walking on 3 drains so much.
  3. Step on a crack, break your mums back-another from when I was younger. I didn't follow this to the letter, it was more that if I stepped on a crack something bad would happen.
  4. To make a happy marriage, the bride must wear something old, new, borrowed and something blue. I view this as more of a tradition than a superstition...though I suppose it counts!
  5. An apple a day keeps the doctor away. Well, logically if you eat fruit everyday you are likely to be healthier
  6. Our fate it written in the stars - in my mind this pertains to horoscopes. I do think that these can be accurate, but there is a lot of made up stuff out there too.
That'll do from me!

#BLOGTOBER14 - Day 27

Day 27
A Letter To My Younger Self

Dear 17 year old me,

5 years have passed, You're 22 now and you are out of education, and working full time. That feels weird when it happens. College and uni are tha places you learn about who you are and what kind of a person you are, and want to be. In particular, this will happen at uni. Your friends will help shape you into the person you are today.

You know the guy you've been dating for 8 months? Well, you're still together now after almost 6 years. You make it through being at seperate universities despite people saying you won't make it. You both prove them wrong.

You'll meet someone at uni that you instantly take a liking to. She moves into your second year house and you become really close. After uni you stay in touch and see each other at least once a month. She will be a friend for life.

The next 5 years will be some of the best times of your life, enjoy them.

Love,

22 year old me

Day 26
Who'd Play me In a Movie

I never know who to pick on things like this, so I asked Sisterbell what she thought...

She replied "Zooey Dechanel because she plays weird clumsy characters"

thank you, sis.

I have been told I look like Maggie Gyllenhaal (back when I had brown curly hair) and I have also been told I look like Scarlett Johanson. I don't see it personally but Andrew is admant...

Okay maybe a bit on this one, but only at certain face angles! (and when I was thinner in the face!)

This one I really can't see. But still, an actress playing me in a film doesn't HAVE to look like me!

Happy lazy Sunday!

P.S. HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAD

Day 24
One Beauty Product I Can't Live Without

I don't actually use many beauty products. Or any, most of the time. Except of course the usual deodorant, shampoo, etc.

Having said that, on the rare occasion I do actually bother to wear makeup I will always reach for my eyeliner. Every time. I never make up my face without it!

At the moment my favorite eyeliner is Maybelline New York's Lasting Drama Black Shock gel eyeliner. I love it, it takes some getting used to when first applying it, but once I got used to it, it applied really easily, evenly and has amazing staying power! Definitely a recommended product!

I'm really glad I picked this one up!

Looking forward to reading everyone else's posts!
