Starting a Bullet Journal

I recently happened across the phenomenon known as a 'Bullet Journal'. I saw this first on Basically Innocent's blog, and instantly wanted to have one of my own. From what I've been looking at online, I would describe a Bullet Journal as...a calendar/diary/journal/to-do list all rolled into one neat notebook that you can get as creative as you want with. This is most definitely my favorite thing ever!

I started with the key - a list of symbols I would be using in my journal, and what they mean. I stuck with the original symbols suggested on the bullet journal website, as I wanted to start simple and modify once I was used to the system. Following this logic, I set up my bullet journal following the BuJo website, and got cracking...

It's been over a month, and I can say I'm a full on bujo-er, and I don't see myself stopping anytime soon!

Here's some pics of my pages, hope they inspire or intrigue you enough to check out the bullet journal system  and give it a try yourselves :)

How Does Your Garden Grow?

I hate being hairy. Yes, I am absolutely going there. When I have hairy armpits I feel like a icky man-lady. Over the years I've tried all kinds of hair removal...shaving, waxing, that stinky hair cream stuff...the only thing I haven't tried is the slightly more permanent laser hair removal (I can neither confirm nor deny that it may be next on my list of things to try...)

I thought it would be interesting to write about my experiences with each method...ENJOY

1. Shaving

The standard. Where more or less everyone starts out...

Yay

  • Feels great to get the hair off quickly and pain-free!
  • Quick
  • Cheap
  • Easy
  • Can do it at home
  • Convenient
Nay
  • Itchy regrowth
  • Does NOT last very long. At all. 2 days max
  • Accidental slips or bad angles can cause uncontrollable bleeding and scarring
  • Razors quickly go blunt
  • Razor burn/razor rash
  • Ingrown hairs
  • Red bobbly skin

Krummometer says:

P.S. Krumm is a character from a cartoon Aaahh!!! Real Monsters. It was always on Cartoon Network in the late evenings.
The convenience of shaving pushed it up to a 3 for me, and to be fair, I shave on my legs pretty much all the time. Though in other more sensitive areas - like armpits - it does not work very well for me.

2. Hair Removal Cream

Yay

  • Quick
  • Can do it at home
Nay

  • It smells gross
  • It doesn't work as well as I would like it to
  • It's gloopy

Krummometer says:

I did not like this. at all. Gross and smelly with unsatisfactory results...Boooooo!

3. Epilator

Yay

  • Quicker than plucking each hair out
  • Cheap (once you have bought the epilator)
  • Reusable
Nay
  • Painful. All the pain.
  • Scary - there is no way I would use this on my underarms - legs are as far as I will go with this!
  • Too violent - sometimes it breaks the hairs and I'm left with stubble

Krummometer says:

Another hair removal method I did NOT like. It's too painful and does not give very good results.... Having said that, the last time I used an epilator was several years ago soo it might be worth giving this another shot. Maybe.

4. Strip Wax (Home kits)

Yay

  • Pulls the hair out from the root
  • Lighter regrowth
  • You can do it privately at home without the awkwardness of stripping off in a salon
Nay

  • Painful
  • Takes a lot of courage to pull off the strip yourself
  • Messy and sticky
  • It's hard to reach all the areas you want to wax
  • Takes a lot of time

Krummometer says:
It's hard to pull the strips off - correctly - on your own. It's also soo messy and sticky...I prefer the smoothness of waxing, but I prefer the convenience of shaving over the mess of waxing myself

5. Strip Wax (Salon)
Yay

  • You don't have to do anything. Just lay back and let the beautician do the work
  • Lighter regrowth
  • Smooth results

Nay

  • Going to a salon every month can get expensive
  • Painful
  • Having to grow the hair out long enough to be waxed again is neither fun nor attractive...

Krummometer says:
I love the smooth, clean feeling after a wax. However, I have sensitive skin so I do sometimes come up quite red and sore in the stubborn hair areas.

6. Hot Wax
Yay
  • Gentler on the skin (no wax strips - just peels off)
  • Gets the shorter hairs that can be missed in a strip wax
  • Smells nice
  • hairless for longer
  • Grows back finer
Nay
  • Gets expensive going to a salon every month
  • Can be painful (but less painful than strip wax)
  • I haven't seen this in many places - few and far between!
  • Have to regrow the hair in-between treatments

Krummometer says:

Pling Pling Pling! We have a winner. This by far is my favorite hair removal method. I prefer it over all other methods I've tried thus far!

What method do you prefer?

23 Things About Moving Out

Andrew and I moved out on the 31st January, it's been 10 days and things are going well. Sooo with me being me, I made a list of things I've learnt so far about about moving out...
Also, I may be jumping on the blog list bandwagon a little bit. Oops.

Here we go...
  1. Moving out is exciting.
  2. You realise how much stuff you actually own.
  3. Packing is hard work.
  4. It makes you think about all the clothes you never wear.
  5. You start to think about how you're going to survive after moving away from where you have lived all your life.
  6. Seriously. So. Much. Stuff.
  7. Where do boxes even come from? And why are they so expensive??
  8. Moving in is messy.
  9. It takes forever to unpack.
  10. It's awesome to finally move out with your long term partner
  11. Living with one other person, who works odd shifts means you are in the house all alone sometimes...which isn't always that fun.
  12. Housework is harder than it looks
  13. It takes a long time to heat up a house
  14. ALL the stuff.
  15. Unpacking takes forever. I haven't even moved all of my stuff here yet and I have still been unable to unpack a small portion of my things.
  16. Moving out is expensive.
  17. There are always a million things to do around the house, and millions of lists to go with them
  18. Living with people at uni is not like living with your boyfriend full time.
  19. It's really nice to come home to your boyfriend and spend some time hanging out.
  20. Finding homes for all your things is both laborious and a little bit fun.
  21. Moving a sofa through a small door, and around into another small door is quite difficult.
  22. Compromise. Get used to doing it fast.
  23. Running a household is a very 'adult' thing, but when it comes down to it, you still feel like a kid playing house from time to time.
Voila, a list for you to feast your eyes upon!

1 day to go!

I move out tomorrow.

!!!!

Excited doesn't quite cover it! I am so looking forward to this, it's about time! I am a bit anxious about the money side of it, but I think we will be okay. We just need to really knuckle down and keep track of what we're spending...

A big part of me wants to go mad and decorate the whole house. The other, more logical, part of me says that would not be a good idea, as we are renting and therefore it is not practical to put a lot of money into it. Waaaaaa

5 Days and Counting

Move out day is in 5 days. Fiiiive daaaayyyss. I didn't get as much packed as I was expecting to over the weekend (read: nothing packed) so I think it's going to be a long week. To be fair, last night I did sort out my underwear for the week and packed the surplus. So I guess I did do a little bit of packing!

Andrew and I may have fallen in love with a sofa, and I fell head over heels for a little square snuggle chair on saturday. They were in a store called Choice - this is basically a shop that sells Next castoffs at discount prices. This tends to mean that once something is gone, it's not going to be back in stock again. With that in mind, we totally bought them, our first bit of furniture bought together! I can't wait to arrange them in the house and sit on them!!

Now, I know that buying the sofa was a bit pre-emptive. Especially as this is a trial period in the house, however, we would have to buy a sofa at some point anyway soo...why not.

I have a To-Do list of sorts for this week, of all the things I can think of that I need to do before going, and the things I need to pack. Not entirely sure I'll get everything done, but I can give it a go!

MOVE OUT TO DO
[x] Pack Bras
[x] Pack Underwear
[x] Pack Socks
[ ] Clean hiking boots
[ ] Clear out boot of car
[ ] Back up laptop
[ ] Use bath stuff
[ ] Give away bath stuff
[ ] Take down photos

[ ] Pack Hot water bottle

[ ] Pack Extension cables
[ ] Pack Tech book
[ ] Pack External hard drive
[ ] Pack protein
[ ] Pack Protein shaker
[ ] Pack Mugs
[ ] Pack documents folder
[ ] Pack car folder
[ ] Pack q & a journal

I'm certain I'll think of more things I need to pack or do, but that's my list so far!

Kind of wishing I had this week off work to get all of this done...

Winter Bucket List

Hi all! December is here, as is winter. With it, I've decided to create a new seasonal bucket list! Why not eh?

So, below is a list of things I would like to achieve by February 28th 2015.

Enjoy!

1: Try a recipe from my Clean Eating Recipe book!
2: Run the whole of a 5k (no walking breaks)
3: Post 3 book reviews (1 a month seems achievable!)
4: Plan a trip
5: Lose weight over Christmas and New Years
6: Have enough saved up to move out
7: Clear out/tidy up the pile of stuff in my room
8: Dye my hair one last time before the end of December (NYR to come involving this...)
9: Fit back into some of my old clothes
10: Do something awesome for my birthday

What do you want to achieve this winter?

Autumn Bucket List

Hi all! November is over... DECEMBER TIME is here! If you've been paying attention, as a part of the #Blogtober14 Challenge one of the prompts was to write a Fall Bucket List. I thought it would be a good idea to take a look back and see what I have achieved from it just before we slip into the winter months...

The Original List
1. First and foremost, complete my first blog challenge - #BLOGTOBER14
2. Fit some running into my weekly routine, and stick with it!
3. Eat better
4. Post minimum of 2 book reviews
5. Try a recipe from my Clean Eating book
6. Look after my skin throughout autumn
7. Try some de-stress techniques each day
8. Start going to Zumba
9. Start looking for and planning gifts for Christmas (only 80 days away!)

Here's how I did:
1: CHECK. Big fat check on this - as evidenced in my October posts!
2: I think I've done okay on this, I'm part of a running group and I try to make sure I get to the sessions every week...
3: Hmmmm this can still be improved, but I have been eating better than I did through the summer.
4: FAIL. I didn't get around to doing this, November just flew by me and I didn't post anything I had planned #sadface
5: FAIL. I haven't done this, I still want to though! Perhaps when I'm off work over Christmas...
6: I haven't paid any attention to this one, so another FAIL.
7: FAIL, again. I think about doing it quite often, but have never actually implemented anything.
8: FAIL. However, I'm not sure this one is entirely my fault. When I wanted to go, it got cancelled, then when I couldn't go, it was on. Just bad timing all around I think!
9: CHECK. I've been thinking about Christmas a lot recently, and have got a few gifts together for it...Still a long ways to go though!

Overall, I achieved 4 / 9 on my bucket list. Overall, not too bad - could have been worse!

I hope November went well for everyone, and lets look forward to a good December!

#BLOGTOBER14 - Day 6

Helene in Between Blogtober

Day 6 Day 6 Day 6
Almost a week into this already!!

10 Things I Would Tell Myself When I Started Blogging
  1. Don't worry so much and just write.
  2. It doesn't matter if no one is reading-but they will read it. Maybe not all the time, but that's okay!
  3. It's fun to blog, you like it so much that you create a second blog-a lifestyle blog (this one) as well as your health and fitness journey blog.
  4. You'll still be blogging in 3 years time. Keep at it.
  5. Link ups are fun, don't be worried about joining in. It will lead to discovering more blogs to read
  6. You will absolutely become obsessed with bloglovin and keeping up with new posts
  7. You will slowly (at a snails pace) fall into a whole community that you didn't know existed. Keep falling into it, it looks good from here.
  8. Write about what you know. Aspirations, books, any thing and everything that takes your interest.
  9. Don't be afraid to comment on other people's posts, it's always nice to get responses. Share the love!
  10. Pictures in posts are always good, makes things a little more interesting

There we have it. This post was quite difficult to write, I still feel like a brand new baby blogger after 3 years. This probably has something to do with me very slowly finding my feet with this blog. It started out as a secondary to my BekBek blog about the clothes I couldn't wear anymore after putting on so much weight, and morphed into talking about other things. I recently changed the name of it to more suit it being a lifestyle blog rather than a blog about 'MyWastedWardrobe' see what I did there?

I'm still doscovering what it is I want to write about, but at the moment I think I have it down to books, reviews, hair, baking and anything else that may take my fancy or makes me feel inspired to write. Still pretty broad, but it reflects my life and my interests.

Hope you enjoyed that little insight into my blogbrain, hop back tomorrow for: my best/worst vacation...
